Srinagar, Jan 16 (KNO): Police on Thursday said to have arrested five drug peddlers in Kupwara, Baramulla, Srinagar & Budgam and recovered contraband substances & cash from their possession.
A police team of Police Post Bazaar at a checkpoint established at Geerhatchi, Kupwara, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Parry son of Ghulam Hassan Parry resident of Doniwari Lolab. During the search, 11 grams of Heroin-like substance and Rs 5,170 was recovered from his possession. Subsequently, he was arrested, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Meanwhile in Baramulla, a Police party of Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Gingal Uri, arrested a drug peddler identified as Saleem Khan son of Akhter Khan resident of Dawaran Uri. During the search, 1.208 Kgs of Cannabis Powder like substances was recovered from his possession, police said.
In Srinagar, a Police team at a checkpoint established at Dalgate, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Aquib Ahmad Sofi son of Late Gh Mohi Udin Sofi resident of Buchwara Dalgate and Ashiq Hussain Dar @Ashiq Kala son of Mohd Yousuf Dar resident of Dubji Bund Maisuma Srinagar. During search, a substantial quantity of narcotic substance and cash amount of ₹5,000/- have been recovered from their possession, police added.
In Budgam, during naka checking at Madbal Chadoora, a Police party of Police Station Chadoora intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration No. JK01K-3500 driven by Sajad Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani resident of Nowhar Chadoora. During the search, 1.70 Kgs of Charas Powder and 02 sticks of Charas wrapped in corn husk were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Accordingly, police said that the cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
